Find out more about the production methods used with our flax-based growing media and composts

The success of Terreau Flore Bleue  is based on our unique know-how concerning the process of manufacturing flax-based growing media according to the NF U 44-551 standard in France. We recycle and recover organic materials during the processing of flax. We make every effort to offer our customers the best quality of each product. All of them meet the requirements expected for the classic uses of topsoil, substrates and composts (garden, vegetable plots, etc.) perfectly. Indeed, they offer the same properties for much more technical needs (sports grounds, green car parks, garden roofs and terraces).

By using our products, you will be helping to preserve our environment, too, thanks to the origin of our products and our peat-free production method.

French production methods with unique know-how

Unrivalled in France, our production processes are matched by a desire to offer optimum product quality. This is obtained through:

  • A production process that follows a minimum 3-year cycle according to a defined quality procedure.
  • The selection and traceability of noble raw materials, 90% of which are from local sources.
  • 95% of our range is peat-free.
  • The control of pH levels with conductivity and maturity testing.
  • Trace metal content that is well below the industry standard.
  • Exceptional specification compliance (proportion of ingredients, homogeneity of mixtures, sieving).
  • Tailored and reliable transportation logistics delivered with local partners.

In order to meet all of your expectations, we can also work according to any precise specifications you may have and respond to any specific request thanks to our know-how in the development of custom mixes.

Our production process for flax-based soils, growing media substrates and potting soil composts

Each year, Terreau Flore Bleue produces more than 90,000 m³ of growing media, pine bark mulch and custom mixes, available to in bulk, in bulk containers or big bags. The production method used follows an exclusive Terreau Flore Bleue process and a 3-month refining operation in accordance with our quality procedures.

  • For the reprocessing of flax, we recover the raw material from local cooperatives  within a radius of 50 km.
  • Flax goes through several production stages. It is first stored to carry out the natural degradation of flax residues.
  • The flax maturation phase is characterised by a slower degradation of the material which corresponds to it becoming more refined.
  • Natural stabilisation makes it possible to obtain a final product that is stable enough for storage and later use.
  • All the products have traceability and samples are sent for laboratory analysis for quality monitoring with approved external laboratories. Their results are also communicated to customers.
